Forgetting to wear your retainer for a night every now and then won’t be an issue, but if you find you’re having trouble remembering to wear it or you have just lost your motivation, please read on. These tips, designed to help you keep your beautiful, new smile, are for you:
Tip No. 1: Take a photo of your retainer instructions and keep it posted by your bed.
Tip No. 2: Take a photo of your retainer and put it up on your mirror as a reminder when you brush your teeth at night (and we know you’re brushing your teeth:-).
Tip No. 3: Set a recurring alarm on your phone to remind you every time you need to put in your retainer. This will get old after a while, but until you feel like you can’t go to sleep without your retainer in, it can really help.
Tip No. 4: Keep your retainer clean. If you’re not sure of the best way to do that, let us know and we’ll show you how. A fresh, clean retainer makes your mouth happy. A gross one…not so much.
Tip No. 5: Keep your retainer in its case whenever you’re not wearing it. Taking it out and leaving it on a counter or tabletop is a great way to lose it…especially if you have a dog. They love to chew on retainers.
Tip No. 6: Ask for help. If you’re struggling with maintaining a strict schedule, ask a parent, spouse or friend to nag you, er, gently remind you.
Tip No. 7: If you ever feel like your retainer needs to be replaced. Let us know.
